Working Out

I'm broadcasting this to the world so I'll feel pressured and ashamed when I eat too much.

By August, I'm hoping to fit exercise and a healthy diet into my daily regimen. I ballooned to 120lbs from my normal 105-107lbs after college.  I blame all the beer and the massive hormonal changes from all the teenage vices I shamelessly indulged in, but that's the past so I'll try to go easy on myself for that.

Post-college and after employment, I found that losing weight is mothafucking hard - my body isn't as obedient, I have more money to spend on food and I have less time (and more excuses) to ward off exercise.

But that's all gonna change starting today. I'm tired of feeling awful after looking at myself in photos and until I'm happy with how I look like (lol good luck with that), I'll never stop.

I'll probably be taking some diet pills to help me get started then we'll see what happens after that.

Stylish Blogger Award: 7 Facts About Yourself

The beautiful Diana of Kiss & Makeup tagged me! This is my first award ever and I think it's a bit premature but I think this is so sweet and a lot of fun! :)

THE RULES:
  • List 7 FACTS about yourself
  • Pass to 7 Bloggers
  • Notify the 7 Lucky bloggers who got it.

7 FACTS ABOUT ME

ONE: I'm a patent engineer specializing in software patents. This means that I try to get U.S. inventions patented on a daily basis. The operative word here, of course, is try. haha. It may sound like a really boring job but it's cool and I love it.

This is an actual patent turned into a Valentines card.

TWO: I have awfully dry skin and I'm perpetually scared of premature wrinkles. :(

THREE: I drink at least one cup of coffee every day. I can't live without that or my brain feels like it has turned to mush. I think this habit is partly to be blamed for my dry skin.

FOUR: I love animals. Sometimes, even more than people.

Yuki, my 3-year old dog.

FIVE: New York City is my favorite place in the world. I've been there once and I wanna go back ever since!

NYC Times Square (September 2010)

SIX: I love TV so much! I get obsessed over shows, schedules, characters, casting, plot and production. If I watched TV in an actual TV (I download off the net), I'd probably schedule my life around it.

A show I've been obsessing lately is True Blood. Well, I'm actually more obsessed with Alexander Skarsgard more than the show. But can you blame me, really?

SEVEN: Books are my best friends. I may not get to read as much as I used to but they are always on my mind and I am forever in the middle of a good story. I have amassed quite a number of books and I own a Kindle which I named Jon Snow after a Game of Thrones character. I never leave home without Jon Snow!

Skin Care Misconceptions Part 1: Buying the Wrong Products

We are bombarded with an insane number of beauty products in the market. The number can be quite overwhelming and if you're impatient and impulsive like me, you can become a victim of pretty packaging and nice words and end up buying crap that's not necessarily suited for you.

To guide everyone in their pursuit for perfect (or better) skin, it's imperative that we are all aware of some skin care misconceptions to avoid falling into the consumerism trap.

    •  Natural and organic products are always better. Buyer, beware! Many natural and organic products are not as they claim. Plus, many times, active ingredients have to be synthesized to be bioavailable and efficacious. Synthetic compounds can actually be identical to those found in nature and be more effective. Natural vs. laboratory-processed should not lead to an up or down decision about whether a product is good or bad. Not all chemicals are bad, and not all natural or organic ingredients are good.

    • Using larger quantities of a product will yield better results. Less is more. Normally, a pea-sized amount of facial product will do the trick. Excessive amounts can cause skin problems and waste money.

    • Packaging is not important. Packaging in skin care is vitally important—not for aesthetic reasons—but to protect the efficacy of the ingredients. Wide-mouth jars, transparent containers and pumps that are not airless all pose problems in keeping ingredients safe and potent.

Transformers 3: Mark of the Spoon

So, I watched Transformers 3 yesterday with a heavy heart. I didn't like it and thought it was a grand waste of my precious time.

However, that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley girl is gorgeous. I've been following her runs on the red carpet and she's showed up looking gorgeous every time! I've loved her even before Transformers 3 and I think her lips are gorgeous and her body is smashing.

    Megan Fox who?

    This is my favorite! :)

    Products I Use

Just a little round-up of products I use. I recently got interested in makeup, like only until about 2 months ago (LOL), so I only have a few no-nonsense products on my stash. These aren't all of it though since I got lazy taking pictures. Some are out of focus since the f/1.8 lens does crazy bokeh.

Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher in #05

I got this for about Php350 during the Etude House Grand Sale which they had after garnering 50k followers on Facebook. I pretty much went gaga over the sale because EH products have the best packaging ever and they're known for being an affordable Korean drugstore brand. This blush has glitters and adds a natural glow to my face. It's pretty pigmented too so I'm expecting this to last a long time.

L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Foundation in N4 Nude Beige

I was trying out foundations in the L'Oreal counter in SM Cebu when the sales agent approached me and helped me find my shade. I was playing with one shade lighter and she suggested the N4 which is tad darker. She was really nice and expected that I would buy the darn thing, and because I'm awkward and stupid, I felt too embarrassed to return the product and bought it with my credit card instead. It costs Php995 which I totally had no budget for. :( It's my first liquid foundation though and my first really pricey makeup so, oh well. N4  turned out to be really dark on me too (it didn't match my neck and chest!) so it's not the greatest buy ever but I kinda got over this mini-heartbreak.

I discovered a lifehack for matching darker foundations though so I still use this occasionally. Will blog about that someday.

    Garnier Overnight Whitening Peeling Cream

I'm not the biggest fan of Garnier (their moisturizer with SPF broke me out) so I only bought the small tube for this product. It's supposed to lighten dark spots and I found a few raves about it online so whatever. This costs less than Php200 so it won't be much of a downer if this turns out bad.

This product didn't break me out but I haven't really seen spectacular lightening with my blemishes. I only used this for about a couple of weeks though so it might be too soon to notice any changes. I usually use this on my upper lip area which is a bit darker after having so many pimples on that area before. :( Too much improper girlstache waxing in college. :(

Etude House Oh ~ m'Eye Lash: Double Up Volume

Bought this at the Etude House sale too! This is around Php189-ish during the sale. This is my first ever colored mascara and I love it. It doesn't really volumize my lashes extensively but the change is still noticeable. I've been practicing putting on mascara using a Fashion 21 colorless, waterproof mascara with lash conditioner and I felt like graduating into a colored mascara. I think I'm doing really well with it and this was a great product to start with, IMO. Cheap and has a nice quality to it. No more smudges! Well, nothing that can't be removed using a Q-tip anyway.

This mascara isn't waterproof so it kinda flakes at the end of the day. Nothing horrifying though and I still love it. It goes bad after three months anyway so whatever. :P

    Toodles.

    Review: Jason Tea Tree Oil

Price: Php575 at Healthy Options, Ayala Center Cebu
Details: 30mL of pure tea tree oil, the old bottle design says it’s 100% certified organic but I can’t find it on the new bottle design
Ingredient/s: Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil

Jason Tea Tree Oil is a pure, all-natural, organic tea tree oil which you can use for all sorts of things. I mainly use it for cockblocking pimples, dabbing a bit of oil in them before they grow into full-pledged, annoying, lil shits.

One major qualm I have with this oil is its smell. It takes getting used to since it’s quite strong. It’s pure oil (no water added! doh!) so the strong, herbal scent is probably a good sign but I find it really disturbing. My boyfriend likes it though since it smells healthy and very organic, so I guess it all depends on personal preference.

It’s very effective in killing off pimples. I used it on three fully-grown zits on my forehead and on the morning after, one of the pimples was gone while the other two had their redness reduced significantly. After three nights, they were barely noticeable especially under a good foundation.

Tea tree oil is well-known to be a potent antiseptic in Australia and can be used for various antibacterial, antifungal and anti-badstuff purposes. For a detailed list on how you can use this essential oil for beauty, health and household needs, check dis out.

I know the price is quite steep for such a small bottle of oil but the list of its uses is pretty long and it actually really works so all is cool.

    Toodles.
